Lady in Red

November 30, 2010

Soooo, this post should REALLY be titled "Objects in this post look bigger than they appear" and by objects I mean my boobs. This dress makes them look like watermelons instead of the grapefruit that they really are. (Yes, I just realized I was comparing my hootie hoots to fruit)

Do any articles of clothing make you look bigger, smaller or more busty? What's up with that? This dress may have to go up for sale soon, maybe to someone with baby lemons to add that oomph factor since it clearly takes my chest up a notch. And there I go with the fruit talk again...

It's a Napkin Bow???

November 29, 2010

Hubs described this shirt as someone walking by and placing a napkin on top of my shoulder when anyone can CLEARLY see it's a bow! Husbands...geez...you can't live with them, can't live without them!

So I'm pretty sure these boots are the best $24.99 I have ever spent in my life. I have had them going on about three weeks now and they have been on the blog here and here, on my feet (not photographed) about 7 times and now today. I cannot quit wearing them and all their flat heeled, camel colored goodness. It's sick, really!!

Bring On the Christmas Decor!!!

November 27, 2010

Alright people...it's that time again to whip out all the holiday decorations and I am super excited to began the process. I literally watched HGTV for two hours straight and learned how to make a serene scene on my dining room table with table runners, topiaries and beaded snowflakes or even make and give homemade Cherry-Rum Nut Balls as gifts.

My creative juices are flowing and I cannot wait to show you the start to finish products but for now you will have to settle with some awesome items I have found (pre-made) on Etsy that I am dying to add to my holiday home collection!!

Seven Things About ME!!!

November 26, 2010

A couple of days ago I received the Versatile Blogger Award from Frances Joy over at Mad Dress Game...thank you!! I am supposed to share seven tidbits of information with my readers so here it goes:

1. I met my hubbie at a bar (classy, right) when I was 25 years young and it took him three consecutive Thursdays in a row before he asked for my number AND then another week before he asked me out...the rest is history.

2. I majored in English in college and I am doing absolutely nothing with it...unless you count writing this blog.

3. My girlfriends are the world to me, I could not imagine being one of those girls that drops all of her friends for a guy. You will ALWAYS need your friends!

4. The weirdest family pet we ever owned was a possum...Pete the Possum to be exact!

5. I have worn glasses/contacts since the 5th grade.

6. I studied abroad one summer while I was in college in Stratford-upon-Avon, England and took classes on Shakespeare.

7. I am obsessed with ice cream and would eat it on a daily basis if I could.

The directions also say to tag 7 other bloggers so you can get to know the people behind the blogs so here are my seven I would love to learn more about:

No outfit post today.....I still can't fit into my clothes from the Thanksgiving feast I ate all day yesterday!!!!

Happy Turkey Day!!!

November 25, 2010

First things first....Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!! Today is the one day when I can eat and eat and eat and eat and not feel bad about it, well at least not until the next day when I am in a food coma. Some of you guys asked to hear a rap I created so hear it goes...don't say I didn't warn ya!

Thanks (for giving me the gift of rap) from Ashley Jackson on Vimeo.

In case you feel frisky and want to bust out singing during Thanksgiving lunch here are the words to the rap:

I like Thanksgiving and it ain't no lie, this butterball can't deny

When my mom walks in with some turkey and some corn, I swear I am re-born

I give thanks-until I look around and realize there's no ham

I'm hooked an family tradition...so listen up and pay attention

I said Mom-Mom what the hell ya got going on

The families in, I got a double chin and Thanksgiving dinner can end

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Times Are A Changing...

November 24, 2010

Before I started this blog I would have never, ever worn this head to toe look. When you think about it how does a crazy print dress, leopard belt, pointelle knit tights and camel colored boots even go together??? The answer is, they probably don't but I don't care anymore. I use to think that everything had to be so structured and matchy matchy but this blog had pushed me totally out of my comfort zone and for that I am grateful.

After I started following other bloggers and seeing all the different styles around me, I am becoming more and more comfortable wearing what makes me happy. If I want to pile on tons of jewelry like Rachel Zoe instead of the standard only one big statement piece..I will. If I want to bare my legs and my shoulders instead of balancing it out doing one or the other...I can. Hell, if I want to apply bold eyeshadow AND lip color...I am gonna do it! (that last comment was only because I got on a roll with my girl power)

I am gonna quote the always trendy and ever so knowledgeable En Vogue when I say, "Free your mind and the rest will follow." Think about applying this to fashion and a whole new world opens up right before your eyes!

Color Me Happy!!!

November 23, 2010

Can I possibly have any more color on in this outfit?? I mean, who did I think I was when I woke up this morning....a freaking rainbow!! Whatever the case may be, it actually all works together (at least in my mind).

These beautiful earrings are another swap present compliments of Vivian from Diamonds and Tulle. I love them and had no problem incorporating them into everyday life...I wasn't about to sit and wait until I had a fancy Christmas party, wedding, etc. to wear them. With all the sequins and bling bling cropping up on the runways and retail stores, no one should hesitate to wear sparkle right now!

On another note, I never wear my hair up in one of those clip thingies but I kind of like it, much easier than blow drying your hair every morning and probably tons healthier too. I cannot believe the hair gods have never told me this secret before...live and learn people, live and learn.

Hidden Talents....

November 22, 2010

So Friday after work my girlfriends and I had game night and I discovered my hidden talent of....writing rap songs! I bet no one saw that coming...what can I say I've got mad skills! I would bust out in an impromptu performance if ya''ll were here but since for most of you that includes traveling to Tennessee, I am out. At this point in my budding career no one has picked up any of my music and until that happens I am just a starving new artist (picture me as the up and coming Eminem except I'm female and I don't hate the entire world).

Another hidden talent I have is wearing these sparkle shoes with plain, boring cargo pants. Wait, I take that back Mr. Cargo Pants...you are actually one of my favorite items in my closet right now!

A couple weeks ago Ashley from Ashley Getting Dressed came up with a brilliant idea for a swap. Everyone that entered was assigned a partner and you had to put together a small package to send and the theme was "Earrings, Rings and Other Sparkly Things". My swap buddy was Vivian from Diamonds and Tulle and I had so much fun picking out her pieces based on what she wore in her blog. She is the one who needs to get credit if you like my scarf because this was one of my sparkly gifts, thanks Vivian!!! We both choose Forever 21 to purchase items for each other...that place is the go-to-store for all kinds of stuff.

November 19, 2010

...It's Super Ashley!!! When I originally ordered this shirt from Charlotte Russe I had no idea the wingspan was so impressive. When it arrived in the mail and I tried it on I actually hated it. This is the first time I have worn it out in public (usually just around the house saving imaginary people's lives) and it's kind of growing on me.

When I tried it on for my hubbie to approve my outfit for today, he nodded his cute little head and said "yes" THEN I stretched my arms up and I think I scared him! He just doesn't want more than one superhero in the family. Oh well, you cannot please everyone.

XOXO,

Super Ashley

Good vs. Evil

November 18, 2010

The conflict between good and evil went on for about an hour and a half yesterday afternoon in my head until 5pm rolled around and I pushed my thoughts aside for the reminder of the night. The inner struggle was brought on by a co-worker putting in her 6 day (standard practice when resigning from a job is two weeks) notice at my office.

Good: She is finally in a financial place to be a housewife and I am happy for her
Evil: I WISH I could stay at home all day and do nothing

Good: This means I moved up in value to the company because I am the only Recruiter left
Evil: I have to do twice as much work because she is quitting and I am not getting paid for it

Good: I still get to take off for the Thanksgiving holiday
Evil: She was supposed to work after Christmas and she just quit...oh hell no!

Good: I can get more work done and less chatting about anything/everything
Evil: Who am I gonna gossip with now that she is leaving

Good: She gets to spend more time with her family
Evil: I WANT to be able to spend time with my family during the day, when everyone else is at work

I cannot stop the voices in my head...it's madness!
